Putting your food in the bin for charity…

CAMBRIDGE charity Foodbank has unveiled a new Shop and Share collection point at Sainsbury’s as part of its second annual Harvest Appeal.

Players from Cambridge United Football Club joined manager John Taylor at the Coldham’s Lane branch of the supermarket on Thursday to mark the launch of the 2003 appeal.

The group aims to collect donated groceries from the public and redistribute them to homeless and low-income families.
The new scheme enables dried or tinned food and groceries to be dropped off in a collection bin at the supermarket.
The Foodbank, which was launched in October 2001, works in partnership with Aspire Cambridge, a social enterprise initiative providing full time employment, training and support for the long-term unemployed or those moving out of homelessness.

Ken Smith, project development manager for the scheme, said: “We aim to raise awareness and help vulnerable groups such as women seeking refuge, marginalised young people and the elderly.
