Co-op cash helps Welfare projects

CAMBRIDGE community groups have received a welcome cash boost from the Co-operative Group.
Organizations including a transport project and food charity have received awards of between £100 and £850 from the Co-operative Partnerships scheme.

Cambridge Foodbank, which distributes donated food and other items to the homeless and people on low incomes, has been awarded £500.

Another £500 was awarded to the Garden Walk Tenants Welfare Group for gardening equipment for an allotment project, while Cambridge Dial-a-Ride received £100 towards a new minibus.

Co-operative Group membership officer Gill Boys said: “The Co-op is delighted to help these worthy local projects which help bring marginalized communities into the mainstream and enable people who are socially excluded to enjoy the opportunities in life that many of us take for granted.”

Last year the Co-operative Partnerships granted a total of £40,000 to 60 successful projects and since its launch almost £200,000 has been awarded to voluntary and community groups throughout England and Wales.
The scheme will be replaced by the Co-operative Group’s Community Dividend Fund this year.
