Celebrity chef helps charity food scheme

CHEF Steven Saunders served up a real treat in Cambridge this week when he arrived to help with the launch of a new charity.

Mr Saunders, a food writer, restaurateur and guest on BBC2’s Ready Steady Cook program, declared the Cambridge Foodbank’s Coldham’s Lane warehouse officially “open for business”.

The charity aims to redistribute unwanted stocks of food and domestic provisions, such as those with damaged packaging that would otherwise be discarded.

The provisions will then be passed on to those in need, via other charitable organizations within the Cambridge area.

Mr Saunders, who owns Sheene Mill in Melbourn, said: “It’s a wonderful initiative, pulling the community together. I’m sure it will be a huge success.”

One of the beneficiaries of the Foodbank is Jimmy’s Night Shelter in Cambridge.
